[Drugs and lactation]
Abstract
In that book, the authors make a detailed review of drug transfer into breast milk. The first chapter provides the reader with a useful reminder of basic pharmacokinetics principles. Milk transfer of each individual drug is then discussed: based on the literature data available, an estimation is made of the total amount of drug transferred into milk during a treatment period of one day. Taking into account the doses recommended in neonatology and pediatrics, a conclusion is drawn regarding the use of the drug during the lactation period. The aim of the book is to help physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other health professionals in the prescription of drugs to breastfeeding mothers.
