Effects of sedative music on patient preoperative anxiety
Abstract
1. Anticipating surgery frequently produces anxiety. Preoperative surgical patients that are exposed to music experience less anxiety. 2. A patient's music preference can be noted during assessment for use throughout the perioperative experience. 3. The application of music as therapy to reduce fear and anxiety is highly relevant to the work of the perioperative nurse, with regard to a more individualized and holistic approach to patient care.
