Evaluation of three serological tests for the detection of Helicobacter pylori associated infection

G Gościniak et al. Arch Immunol Ther Exp (Warsz). 1993.

Abstract

Biopsy specimens and serum samples from 140 patients with duodenal or gastric ulcer disease were examined. The presence of Helicobacter pylori was detected in 105 out of 140 subjects. Three testing techniques used in this study led to different results. Thus, the enzyme-linked immunosorbent essay enabled detection of elevated IgG antibodies to H. pylori in 108 serum samples. Passive microhemagglutination and latex agglutination, "Pyloriset" led to the detection of elevated titers in 102 and 83 serum samples, respectively. The sensitivity of the ELISA test was 93%, while the specificity was 81%. Relevant percentage for the passive microhemagglutination test amounted to 87% and 69%, respectively and those for latex agglutination was 71% and 74%, respectively.
