Therapeutic occlusion of major vessels, test occlusion and techniques

J M Mathis et al. Neurosurg Clin N Am. 1994 Jul.

Abstract

Temporary and permanent cerebrovascular occlusion have become well-accepted endovascular tools. Temporary vessel occlusion and cerebral blood flow analysis help to predict the adequacy of cerebral collateral flow prior to vessel sacrifice. Permanent cerebrovascular occlusion remains a useful alternative endovascular tool when complex lesions of the cervical region, skullbase, and brain are not treatable by surgical or intralesional techniques.
