[Subcapital metacarpal fracture. Treatment and results within the scope of follow-up]
Abstract
We report on 133 patients with 138 subcapital metacarpal fractures who were treated between 1987-1989. The average duration of follow-up was 27.9 months. The indication for an operative treatment was given in only 4 cases. A good or very good clinical result was achieved in 94%. If the deviation of palmar angulation exceeded 15 degrees, the primary anatomical reposition remained stable in only few cases. Since there is no correlation between the functional and radiological result--even a deviation of palmar angulation up to 50 degrees is acceptable--conservative treatment of the subcapital metacarpal fracture should be preferred.
