Abstract

1. Fungating wound care should reflect the patient's priorities. 2. There is little research-based literature available on fungating wound care. The criteria for the ideal wound dressing are compatible with palliative wound care. 3. Psychological problems are likely to present as a result of developing a fungating breast wound. 4. Nurses' approach to the patient can affect care. Good communication and the use of touch may help reduce psychological morbidity of these women.
