Pressure reduction or pressure relief: making the right choice
Abstract
Prevention of pressure ulcers is the preferred management strategy. Manufacturers have responded with a proliferation of products designed to prevent or minimize skin breakdown. To select the proper pressure-reduction product for an individual patient or a given patient population, the ET nurse should be familiar with the indications for and the advantages and disadvantages of various support surfaces.
