Therapeutic donor insemination: fresh versus frozen

E M Barlet et al. Mo Med. 1994 Feb.

Abstract

Therapeutic donor insemination is used in the treatment of male factor infertility with the use of cryopreserved semen being the standard of care. We reviewed the therapeutic donor insemination (TDI) program at the University of Missouri. Data from TDI cycles between January, 1985 and October 1988, using fresh semen, were retrospectively reviewed and compared to cycles using frozen semen between November, 1988 and April, 1991. Pregnancy rates were 60% and 49% for fresh and frozen cycles respectively with monthly fecundabilities of 0.10 and 0.086 respectively. These rates are comparable to those achieved in other centers. Additionally, as found in most other TDI programs, analysis reveals no statistically significant difference in fecundability with the use of a fresh specimen over frozen semen.
