Abstract

A randomized study has been made to compare combined treatments of 111 patients with local prostatic cancer (T2b-4N0-2M0). The control also included 33 matched patients previously given estrogen therapy alone. Four treatment regimens were compared: radiation treatment alone (I), combined radiation, drug and estrogen treatments (II), estrogen therapy alone (III), combined estrogens and radiation (IV). The resultant responses were assessed by treatment efficacy, 3-year survival and recurrence-free interval. Regimens II and IV appeared superior to treatment I, scheme II was more effective than III. A three-year recurrence-free interval lasted 72.6%, 55.3% and 40% for combinations II, IV, treatments I and III, respectively.
