Use of questionable methods and physician education
Abstract
It is contended that medical students and physicians are not sufficiently familiar with questionable cancer methods to communicate effectively with patients, families, or the news media. A national survey by the American Cancer Society revealed that 9% of patients with cancer use questionable methods. There were substantial discrepancies between perspectives of patients and physicians. Since the physician's role is key, educational efforts are imperative for all persons involved in the care of patients with cancer. Suggestions are made.
