The treatment of migraine--old methods, new ideas

Abstract

Most migrainous patients seeking medical attention suffer either from severe or frequent headaches and relief of pain is not sufficient treatment. Prevention of attacks is the aim of management in such patients. To be successful in this task, one needs to have some knowledge of headache mechanisms and a clear understanding of the mechanism of action of the drugs used for the purpose. This article tries to highlight knowledge in these two fields, so as to help the medical practitioner be successful in the treatment and prevention of migraine.
