The therapeutics of migraine
Abstract
This paper reviews the therapeutics of migraine in the context of the clinical problem and its prevalence. General principles of pharmacotherapy for symptomatic and preventive medications are provided. Two new drugs, sumatriptan (recommended for acute symptomatic therapy), and valproic acid (recommended for migraine prevention), are reviewed. The clinical effectiveness and the mechanisms of action of these drugs are discussed.
