Fuchs' heterochromic uveitis: an update
Abstract
The clinical description of Fuchs' heterochromic uveitis was made in 1906. The subject was first reviewed in 1973. This paper discusses contributions to the literature on Fuchs' heterochromic uveitis since 1973. The widening diagnostic criteria are discussed, as are new theories on etiology and pathogenesis. Investigative methods include light and electron microscopy, fluorescein angiography and immunology are described. Management problems, particularly relating to cataract and glaucoma, are discussed and in the light of such data, current indications for, modalities of, and complications of treatment, are presented.
