Detecting occult fractures of the metacarpal head: the Brewerton view

Abstract

A tangential view of the metacarpal heads which previously was described as being useful for diagnosis of arthritic changes also can be a valuable aid in detecting fractures or avulsions of ligamentous insertions in this area of the hand. The technique of Brewerton is described and illustrative cases are reported.
