Solid second cancers following Hodgkin's disease

Abstract

Patients treated for Hodgkin's disease with radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or both, are often cured with potential lives ahead of them. It is now obvious, however, that many of these patients will develop solid tumors in the years after their successful treatment for Hodgkin's disease. These tumors include non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, lung cancers, sarcomas, and gastrointestinal malignancies, as well as other solid tumors. Understanding the epidemiology of the development of these solid tumors should allow us to design therapies in the future that diminish the risk of developing these second cancers.
