Hypomagnesemia and hypermagnesemia

S G Massry et al. Clin Nephrol. 1977 Apr.

Abstract

With the availability of reliable methods for measurement of magnesium in body fluids, a great deal of information has accumulated on magnesium homeostasis. We reviewed the pertinent data on various aspects of magnesium metabolism. The conditions associated with hypo- and hypermagnesemia and the clinical and laboratory findings as well as the management of these disorders are discussed. Finally, the effects of renal failure on magnesium homeostasis are presented.
