Massive ovarian edema in a menopausal woman. A case report
Abstract
Background: Massive ovarian edema is a tumorlike condition in which there is marked enlargement of one or both ovaries due to accumulation of edema fluid in the stroma. It is speculated to occur as a result of partial ovarian torsion.
Case: Massive ovarian edema occurred in a postmenopausal woman.
Conclusion: Massive ovarian edema is a rare cause of an adnexal mass. Knowledge of its existence is important to prevent incorrect treatment. We present the first case occurring in a menopausal woman.
