Abstract

The authors have analyzed the semasiology of the term scoliosis. Particular attention is given to the fact, that scoliosis is term applied only to a lateral curve of the spine (i.e.a. curve in the frontal plane). This term can be used to define, a state which is free of the structural deformities, that is a postural deformity. The authors also point out the differences in scoliosis occurring as a postural deformity and as a structural deformity.
