Self-concept of psychopaths

Abstract

The purpose of the present investigation was to study the self-concept of psychopaths. The sample consisted of 56 adult males: 28 psychopaths and 28 nonpsychopaths. The MMPI was used to select the sample. The Tennessee Self Concept Scale was administered to all Ss. The two groups differed significantly on 18 of the 28 scales used for the study. Sixteen of these differences were in the direction of greater deviance for psychopaths. Several inconsistencies were also observed in the self-concept of psychopaths. The results confirmed those previously obtained in other studies.
