Abstract

This paper summarizes the key findings and recommendations reported by the Technical Working Group of the World Health Organization in the 1996 publication, Care in Normal Birth: A Practical Guide. The report addresses issues of care in normal birth irrespective of the birth setting or level of care. Its recommendations are based on the scientific evidence for or against some common obstetric practices, and are not specific to a country or region.
