New drugs and clinical trials in diabetes and hypertension
Abstract
Hypertension is a well-established risk factor for cerebro-cardiovascular disease in diabetics, as well as for progressing renal disease. Several pathophysiological mechanisms link hypertension with non-insulin-dependent diabetes (NIDDM), e.g. insulin resistance. This will be discussed below as regards pathophysiology and treatment possibilities, especially with new drugs in ongoing clinical trials.
